Same, but Different!

A look into some new paintings…

Hi friends!

I hope you are having a great week! It has been my first official week in the studio that I’m renting for a month, and may I just say I’m having the best. time. ever!!!

Today I wanted to share with you some of the paintings I’ve been workin on this week! If you follow along on instagram, there’s a good chance you’ve already seen them - but I thought I would use this space to chat more about what’s going on in my brain behind-the-scenes.

For starters - you’ll notice these paintings are subjects that I’ve visited in the past - like florals and animals. Basically, my go-tos! But this time it just feels different. I’m having so much fun letting loose, experimenting, and really taking my time to notice each shape, color, and line that makes a painting.

I know it’s just the beginning but these paintings are something I’ve had in my head for a long time. They are a product of what I have been studying while I was working on other projects, and just never had time to do. They are how my eyes see light, color, and energy.

Right now I’m working on ‘A Painting A Day’ which a lot of artists do in order to get back into a routine of painting and creating. It has definitely pushed me to finish what I start, as I tend to have a pile of half-done paintings.

Not only am I physically letting loose with my paint brush - but this has been such a great mental shift to let my mind loose. Instead of thinking - ‘oh my gosh, this painting isn’t good enough’ or ‘people might not think I’m talented enough’ - I’ve shifted to ‘this is what I painted because this is what’s on my mind and it is unique and it is good’. The less pressure the better! It really is quite freeing, and I think that that is what’s being expressed in these paintings. They are the same subjects as the past, but feel totally different.

As the collection grows, I will work on a release date - so stay tuned! I hope these paintings will be able to bring light, color, and joy into your homes soon.

That’s all for now, I got to get back to painting! Sending lots of love your way.

Cheers! Rachel
